MORE INFO

Basil essential oil is considered a strong support for the brain and the head. It is reported to clear the head, relieve intellectual fatigue, and give the mind strength and clarity. It may be used for all types of nervous disorders, especially those associated with weakness, indecision, and hysteria. Basil is recommended for those who need emotional protection: For example, if you are dealing with a debilitating illness and low-resistance levels, nervous exhaustion, or a change in life resulting in feelings of vulnerability, basil will bring a calmness and strength to your mind so you can approach the future with more confidence.

Basil is a wonderful oil to use for stress-related headaches. Basil also has antispasmodic properties and so can be healing for the respiratory system, including relieving sinus congestion, asthma, bronchitis, influenza, and coughing. Those same antispasmodic properties mean basil can relieve digestive issues and soothe muscle pain and cramping.

When premenstrual or menstrual pain strike, basil may be useful as a compress or in the bath because it is known to be an emmenagogue (a substance that induces menstruation) and antispasmodic.

Don’t forget to try basil oil in culinary applications where it adds a pronounced, rich flavor. As with all essential oils, it is quite potent – the difference between 2 and 4 drops in a dish can mean the difference between appreciating its sublime flavor and tasting only sweet basil!
