Shea butter comes from the nut of the karite shea tree that is indigenous to Africa. Raw, unrefined shea butter contains vitamins and minerals such as vitamins A and E, as well as essential fatty acids. It has been used for centuries for its moisturizing, anti-inflammatory and anti aging properties.

ESSENTIAL FACTS

Plant Parts : Fruit
Botanical Family : Sapotaceae
Country of Origin : Ghana, West Africa
Method of Extraction : Cold Pressed
Cultivation Method : Organic
Aroma : Nutty

PROPERTIES

Shea butter is an excellent source of phytosterol, fatty acid triglyceride (stearic and oleic), palmitic acid, linoleic acid and unsaponifiable matter that facilitate the skin’s natural renewal process. Shea butter oil is also a rich source of cinnamic acid, which helps to protect the skin from dangerous ultraviolet rays. It also contains vitamins A and E which are very beneficial for us.

HOW TO USE

Use Shea butter on its own, or formulate your own salve base with complementary essential oils.

Moisturizer – Shea butter has the ability to soothe, hydrate and balance your skin. It is used as a moisturizer for dry skin and eczema, as a dry scalp treatment, for chapped lips and to help soften cracked dry skin on heels, elbows and knees. It is important, according to the American Shea Butter Institute, to make sure unrefined shea butter is used. Raw shea butter maintains its therapeutic qualities and will keep your skin moist and supple, whereas refined, processed shea butter loses almost all of its healing properties. Dr. Robyn Tisdale Scott, a clinical pharmacist, concurs with the American Shea Butter Institute, supporting the claim that unrefined shea butter reverses dry skin in about three days.

Natural Anti-Inflammatory – Shea butter has natural anti-inflammatory properties that have been known to heal scrapes, cuts and burns; relieve sunburn and rashes; take the sting out of insect bites; and ease the pain from muscle fatigue and arthritis

Suggested Uses:

  • Apply it to dry hands and cuticles
Rub a small amount into your hands and work through your hair to repair effects of styling
  • Use as a lip balm to plump, soothe, and protect against the elements
  • Rub into your legs to prevent razor burn
  • Apply around ‘problem areas’ to your face before applying coverup to reduce the signs of dryness and patchiness
  • Apply to acne scars to help repair skin
  • For pregnant women, apply generously to your belly to help your skin stretch and reduce the chances of stretch marks
  • Add your favorite scented oil and use as a long lasting perfume.
  • Add 1 or 2 drops of a calming essential oil in for a relaxing massage balm
  • Apply to burns and scrapes to speed healing and reduce scarring
  • Add to your favorite bath salts, for extra moisture
  • Apply to skin for UV protection and to protect from harsh elements

SAFETY

Non-toxic, non-irritating.

Nut Allergies: It is commonly referred to as a “Nut,” but technically it is a “Pit” from the fruit of a fruit tree. The shea nut is more closely related to the pit of an avocado or apricot than a real nut like walnut and almond. We have searched, but not found any scientific tests done that link shea butter with nut allergies. However, nut allergies can be serious and life threatening, and you should consult your physician before using shea butter if you have serious nut allergies.

MORE INFO

Not all Shea Butters are created equal!

We sell only the finest Organic African Unrefined Shea Butter, with no additives. Inshanti’s Shea Butter is completely raw, unrefined and has a thick and often nutty aroma.  We import fresh, Grade A tested, organic product, exclusively made for us by our tribal connections in the cooperative village of Ghana, West Africa.

We do not use bleaches, deodorizers, or chemicals to change the scent or appearance of our Shea Butter. We do not advise you to purchase Shea Butter that has been altered or has been refined; as this depletes the product of its healing and medicinal properties, and also destroys the vitamins and minerals naturally present in Shea Butter. Refined Shea Butter relies on a process using hexane solvent and strips the butter of its natural vitamins and healing properties.
