When looking for emotional, mental, and physical balance, Ayurveda medicine recommends holy basil. The oil is also known as tulsi, which means “the incomparable one.” Studies are confirming what traditional medicine has said for centuries—the oil’s antibacterial and antiviral properties work to keep illness at bay, and it has strong analgesic properties that may provide relief for muscle pain and inflammation.

SAFETY

If pregnant, nursing or under a doctor’s care, consult your physician or clinical certified aromatherapist. For external use only. Keep away from mucous membranes & eyes. Test a small amount on skin for allergic reaction. Keep out of reach of children.

Tulsi is high in a component called Eugenol, a Phenol. Phenols are considered to be the most irritating components to the skin and mucous membranes and can cause dermatitis and sensitization. If phenols are present in high concentrations in an essential oil, that oil should be used in very low dilutions on the skin (.5% or less in a carrier) and for short periods of time. They are generally not safe for the skin in a bath. This oil should not be used in an inhaler. Phenols high oils are not used with babies and children. Not to be used neat (undiluted) on the skin. Robert Tisserand, in his book Essential Oil Safety, states that oils high in eugenol should be used with caution on those with impaired liver function. Do not use eugenol high oils (like Tulsi) with people who have clotting disorders, as eugenol is an anticoagulant.

Always dilute essential oils  with a carrier oil.

MORE INFO

According to an article in the Journal of Ayurveda and Integrative Medicine https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC4296439/ “Tulsi has been found to protect organs and tissues against chemical stress from industrial pollutants and heavy metals, and physical stress from prolonged physical exertion, ischemia, physical restraint and exposure to cold and excessive noise. Tulsi has also been shown to counter metabolic stress through normalization of blood glucose, blood pressure and lipid levels, and psychological stress through positive effects on memory and cognitive function and through its anxiolytic and anti-depressant properties.”

Holy basil’s sharp, fresh aroma will brighten your mood and instill confidence, and you just might find it the perfect plus for your perfume blend.
