Extraction
Inshanti’s Prickly Pear Seed Oil is 100 percent pure and extracted solely from the seeds of the prickly pear. It is not mixed with any other base/carrier oil, and more importantly, it is not mixed or made from prickly pear flowers, which would give it a lower quality.
Production
The production of Prickly Pear Seed Oil is a labor-intensive and extremely lengthy process. Its extraction is done mechanically by cold pressing (without solvents) from small seeds of prickly pears. Because the seeds are very hard and contain only about 5 percent oil, the amount of seeds required to produce a liter of oil corresponds to almost one ton of fruits. Hence, its production cost is very high and this oil can be considered the most expensive plant oil in the world.
The Moroccan Prickly Pear Seed Oil has the best quality when compared on chemical composition and ingredients to the Mexican, Tunisian or Greek prickly pear seed oils. There are many regions in Morocco in which prickly pears can be grown, but the best region is located in precisely in the city of Sidi Ifni, in the south of Morocco.
Inshanti’s prickly pear seed oil is first cold-pressed; the extraction is semi mechanical which preserves the oil’s main valuable ingredients such as vitamins and antioxidants. Other prickly pear oils on the market are extracted chemically, which causes the loss of valuable ingredients due to the heat produced during this kind of extraction. In order to replace the lost active substances, synthetic antioxidants may be added.
The prickly pear seeds are separated manually from the pulp (prickly pear fruit) and then dried before getting cold pressed. This carefully executed task takes patience, diligence and precise work (up to five days to prepare only one liter of this oil).
