MORE INFO
Sandalwood has been treasured for thousands of years and holds a special place in the history of natural perfumery, incense, and traditional aromatic practices. In India, Santalum album has long been associated with sacred ceremonies, meditation, and the creation of exquisite fragrances.
What Makes Our Nepal Sandalwood Special?
Our sandalwood is genuine Santalum album, the botanical species traditionally known as Indian or East Indian sandalwood. Although this particular oil originates in Nepal, it belongs to the same prized species that has made Indian sandalwood so highly sought after throughout history.
Unlike sandalwood grown on conventional plantations, this oil is sourced from wild-growing trees under certified organic conditions. Wildcrafted means the trees grow naturally in their environment, while certified organic refers to independently verified standards for their collection and production. This combination makes our Nepal sandalwood a distinctive addition to the Inshanti collection.
The Beauty of Its Natural Chemistry
One of the remarkable qualities of fine Santalum album is its naturally occurring santalol content. Alpha-santalol and beta-santalol are two of the principal aromatic constituents responsible for sandalwood’s characteristic fragrance.
The GC/MS analysis of our particular batch reveals approximately 51.13% cis-alpha-santalol and 23.29% cis-beta-santalol. Together, these two constituents account for approximately 74.42% of the analyzed oil, contributing to its rich, creamy, woody aroma and beautiful lingering character.
For customers interested in learning more about this particular distillation, a GC/MS report is available upon request.
A Precious Oil to Enjoy
Sandalwood is one of my personal favorite essential oils. I love its soft, comforting fragrance, whether enjoyed in a diffuser, blended into a natural perfume, or diluted in a luxurious body oil. Its warm, grounding aroma makes it especially beautiful for quiet moments, meditation, and relaxation.
Because sandalwood trees take many years to develop their aromatic heartwood, genuine Santalum album is a valuable botanical resource. We are delighted to share this limited quantity from Nepal with our Inshanti customers.
