You’ve probably heard of eucalyptus oil before, and eucalyptus globulus—with its strong, medicinal scent—is the most common variety. This essential oil is great for respiratory support, helping with colds and coughs, and for pain relief. Eucalyptus oil may also be helpful with sore joints, rheumatism, sore muscles and sprains, headaches, and fevers. Medical doctor Jean Valnet even found that a 2% solution of eucalyptus oil will kill 70% of airborne staph bacteria. This is a must-have for your medicine cabinet!

HOW TO USE

Bath: Add 8–10 drops of eucalyptus globulus to each ounce of salt (Pink Himalayan Salt or Epsom Salts). Use 1 tablespoon of that blended salt and mix with 1 tablespoon of milk or carrier oil. Add to a full warm bath to relieve respiratory conditions, fever, joint pain and muscular aches.

Colds, Sinus & Flu: Add a few drops to a steam blend to help break up mucous in the sinuses and chest. For example, place 3–4 drops of oil into a bowl of steaming water. Place a towel over your head, close your eyes, and breathe in the vapors

Diffuser: Use in a diffuser throughout the house as a preventative measure. The antiseptic and deodorant nature of eucalyptus oil makes it a perfect room freshener for hospitals. It also kills bacteria and germs in the air, keeping the environment of the rooms clean and sterilized.

Fevers and Reducing Body Temperature: Eucalyptus oil is also known as “fever oil”. Blend 4 drops of eucalyptus globulus oil and 3 drops peppermint oil into 1 oz. carrier oil or unscented lotion. Massage into bottom of feet to help reduce fevers.

MORE INFO

Eucalyptus Oil is extracted from a beautiful, fragrant, tall evergreen tree native to Australia, and particularly Tasmania. Of the 500 types of Eucalyptus tree species, which yield an essential oil, Eucalyptus Globulus is the most common for medicinal purposes due to its high cineol (or eucalyptol) content.  Eucalyptus has spread in the past few centuries to other parts of the world including India, Europe and South Africa. Though many countries produce eucalyptus oil in small quantities, the prime source of eucalyptus oil for the world is still Australia.  Due to the medicinal uses of eucalyptus oil and the compound high cineol (or eucalyptol) which is present in its makeup, it is used in a variety of over the counter drugs including rubs, inhalers, liniments, rash creams, and mouthwashes.
