Floral Accent - Green

You can indulge in the oil thought to be “the balm of Gilead” referred to in the Bible—balsam fir essential oil. Perhaps the nickname refers to the oil’s ability to calm the nervous system and with it any spasms or cramping. Its anti-inflammatory and anti-rheumatic properties relax your airways, your joints and muscles, and your mind, and its uplifting scent is perfect for purifying your home. Balsam fir was often associated with royalty—it was one of three oils found in the grave of Egyptian pharaoh Tutankhamun—allow it to make you feel like royalty again when you need a lift.

RECIPES

Balsam Fir Pain Relief Blend

6 drops balsam fir

3 drops lemongrass

5 drops helichrysum

4 drops german chamomile

2 drops peppermint

1 oz. trauma oil

Directions: Blend all together in a 1 oz. bottle. Massage into affected area.

Cough and Cold Chest Salve

5 oz. jojoba

1/2 oz. beeswax

20 drops balsam fir

12 drops black spruce

12 drops eucalyptus dives

10 drops eucalyptus radiata

10 drops green myrtle

5 drops orange

4–5 glass or aluminum containers

Directions: Place the beeswax, and jojoba in a Pyrex glass-measuring cup. Fill a stockpot 1/4 of the way with water and bring to a boil. Place the Pyrex in the pot of water and wait for the beeswax to melt into the jojoba.

This takes about 5 minutes on a high heat. Remove from heat before all the beeswax melts, as melting will continue to after heat removal. Be sure none of the water from the pot boils into the Pyrex container. Add the remaining essential oils and stir well with a glass stir rod or a wooden chopstick.

Pour into small glass containers or tin containers. This recipe makes 5.5 ounces of salve.

Massage over chest, neck and upper back areas.
